Who Dies and Who Lives in a Pandemic?

This is an interesting article on the ethics, legality and moral issues surrounding medical triage during a pandemic. A task force was recently set up to make an attempt at standardizing the distribution of resources during a major pandemic that strains the emergency health care system.

There are soooooo many angles to explore here. The ethics of this problem could be discussed at length. The idea of allowing the elderly and critically ill to die is not something that many people (including doctors) are going to be comfortable with. But when you have limited resources, difficult decisions have to me made.

I'm just glad I'm not the one who has to make these decisions. Oh wait, I'm a doc now, so I might. Yuck.
